The dishes can wait…

I saw this great poem on another blog and had to repeat it because there are times when I feel just like this…after cooking dinner, and cleaning up after dinner, and giving baths, etc. I am sooo tired! I sometimes find myself saying these exact words, and like the author end up sneaking back into their rooms at night when they’re sleeping to hug and kiss them one more time, promising that tomorrow the dishes can wait so we can play one more game of hide and seek. I will NOT wait until they’re grown to realize I should’ve spent every minute I could with them.

To My Grown-Up Son or Daughter

by Alice E. Chase

My hands were busy through the day,
I didn’t have much time to play
The little games you asked me to,
I didn’t have much time for you.

I’d wash your clothes; I’d sew and cook,
But when you’d bring your picture book
And ask me, please, to share your fun,
I’d say, “A little later, hon.”

I’d tuck you in all safe at night,
And hear your prayers, turn out the light,
Then tiptoe softly to the door,
I wish I’d stayed a minute more.

For life is short, and years rush past,
A little boy grows up so fast,
No longer is he at your side,
His precious secrets to confide.

The picture books are put away,
There are no children’s games to play,
No goodnight kiss, no prayers to hear,
That all belongs to yesteryear.

My hands once busy, now lie still,
The days are long and hard to fill,
I wish I could go back and do,
The little things you asked me to.

ugh! Can someone please give me a box of tissues?? anybody?

Two Minutes of Laughter…

I can’t ever get enough of my babies…especially when they play together, which (surprise surprise) is pretty few and far between. Most of the time the only thing I hear is “mo-omm, she hit me” and “that’s MIIINNNNEEE (at the top of the lungs in a pitch I cannot replicate), I was playing with THAT!!” OMG! It’s hard for me to fathom that my brother and I fought half as much as they do!

But once in a blue moon, I hear insane laughter, and I go around the corner to find this…

I can’t believe he let her drive…I think he’s thinking the same thing in these pics!

It warms my heart to know that deep down they DO love each other…even if we only glimpse it for a minute :)

Mother’s Day Weekend

I seem to always be a day (or so…) late with my posts, but I hope everyone had a great Mother’s day…either hanging with your mom’s or hanging with your kids or if you’re fortunate you got to do both!!

These are my reasons for loving Mother’s Day!! :) I never saw becoming a mom in my future, but WOW…I’m so glad I did. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

(by the way, in case you're wondering, Reggie was not allowed in this picture for 3 reasons: First, someone had to take the picture, I don't know how to use the timer! Second, it's Mother's Day, hello? Third, he was wearing RED...I mean, seriously! Didn't he get the memo?)

I’m also sooo thankful for my mom, who 1. Made it possible because without her I wouldn’t be here :) and 2. Gave me such a great example to follow…she’s amazing!

AND for my wonderful hubby and his wonderful mom. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by such great role models who also adore my children…and if that means spoiling them rotten, bring it on! There are worse things in the world then to have someone love you that much :)
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY EVERYONE!!
