Mom of the year…

We’ve all had our moments, but I think I win this time…please hold all judgement till the end :)

Tyler had an accident..a big one, a bad one, one that could’ve/should’ve been avoided and after a trip to urgent care, thankfully turned out okay.  This did not happen at our house and while we’re not blaming anyone, it WAS an accident and fortunately turned out okay, I can't help but to think "where were all the adults (myself included) who should've been watching him??" I never wanted to become one of those really sheltering, over protective parents who never let their kids be adventurous and spirited and independent. After a lesson that was learned too late, it seems like I'm headed that direction. I just keep thanking GOD, we were sooo lucky!!

He got burned! By a pot of hot dog chili that was too close to the edge of the table. He wanted a chip, and being the independent and self-sufficient child that he is didn’t ask for help when he couldn’t reach it…he went and got his tricycle to stand on. *sigh* he knew better, we knew better…anywho, the tricycle slipped out from under him and while he was falling, he tipped the pot and yep, you guessed it…fell all over him!

We immediately got him under cool water, and with him crying hysterically knew we were going to have to take him to the doctor ASAP. Fortunately, he had long sleeves on and was able to cover most of his face with his arms, but man! How very, very bad this could’ve been. It was 7pm, so a snap decision led us to Urgent Care as opposed to the ER (based solely on distance) but I will not think twice about it next time (although, hopefully, there won’t be a next time!) we waited far longer than I thought we should have…4 yo burn patient, hellloooo?! Turned out to be mostly severe 1st degree burns and one 2nd that blistered up pretty good.  We were so lucky, and Tyler was so brave…now, he’s all smiles and ready to go play :)
